The first question to ask is who you’re asking about.
When you’re looking for help for anxiety, you should ask your doctor, psychologist, or other mental health professional about whom they are familiar with.
They’re the experts who can best guide you through the process.
And if they don’t have a direct line to you, it’s important to ask them to share their expertise, whether it’s in their own field or in the mental health field.
In the meantime, you can try asking friends and family members, or ask a trusted colleague or friend of a friend.
If you’re unsure who you should trust, ask your primary care physician or psychologist, the American Psychological Association’s (APA) National Center for Advancing Mental Health, or a trusted mental health advocate who is familiar with the disorder and the person you’re considering.
The APA recommends that you seek professional help before taking any medication, especially if you’re having trouble sleeping.
It also recommends that if you’ve experienced a psychotic episode or a seizure, you get medical help immediately.
Even if you think you’re at risk of psychosis, your mental health provider should be able to help you understand why.
You may also want to consult a psychiatrist, a psychotherapist, or psychologist who specializes in the disorder.
