Former New South Wales detective Gary Wilson and forensic psychologist, psychologist or psychologist do not exactly have a track record in this field.
The former Detective Sergeant and the former Assistant Commissioner of the NSW Police Department Gary Wilson has been criticised for his controversial statements about child sex abuse, a topic he has been outspoken about for years.
He was the subject of a recent documentary by filmmaker Paul McGuigan about the case against him and his then-deputy Commissioner John Lister.
Mr Wilson’s remarks were described as “incredibly wrong” by a former senior police officer who spoke to the ABC.
In an article in the New South Welsh, Professor Paul McGuiggan said Mr Wilson had “shown his own ignorance and ignorance of what the law actually covers” and that his remarks were “so wrong they are beyond belief”.
“I think we’re seeing some of the kind of ignorance and misunderstanding that people in this position will have,” Professor McGuiggon said.
The Australian Crime Commission (ACCC) declined to comment on Mr Wilson.
“As a matter of policy, we do not comment on individual matters of concern,” an ACCC spokesperson said.
In the article, Professor McGuigan says Mr Wilson should have “refrained from making the comment and asked a question” about the subject.
Professor McGuigs point is that Mr Wilson made a “false allegation” and was “unable to provide any evidence to support it”.
“Mr Wilson’s views on the child sexual abuse scandal were not in accordance with the law, and he has now resigned from the NSW Department of the Attorney-General,” Professor McKiggan wrote.
In the documentary, Professor Lister and Detective Sergeant Andrew White were accused of covering up a child sex scandal at the Metropolitan Police Department in the early 1980s. “
While Mr Wilson has apologised, he has refused to apologise to the victim and has not made any public statements in the wake of the scandal.”

Professor White’s lawyer Andrew O’Neill told the ABC that the interview was a matter for the ABC to determine whether it was appropriate for the broadcaster to air.
“I don’t think it’s appropriate for us to make a statement on the evidence that has been gathered in the course of this,” Professor O’Neil said.
“If we did that, we’d be talking about the allegations against a police officer.”
A spokeswoman for the Attorney General said the Attorney general had no knowledge of the interview and was unable to comment further.

Professor O’,Neil said he believed Professor Wilson’s statements were “inconsistent” with the facts.
“The ABC should have stood by their story and not broadcast it,” Professor McGowan said.
