What is the ‘Psychologist’ specialty?
There are two primary types of psychiatrists.
The first is the professional psychologist, or specialist who is usually trained to work with children and young people.
They specialize in mental health issues and often provide a psychological assessment.
They have specialised expertise in a particular area.
The second is the medical specialist, or medical practitioner, who is trained to diagnose and treat illnesses such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and schizophrenia.
The term “psychologist” has traditionally meant someone who specializes in mental illnesses.
