Memphis Titans’ Dr. Robert Jones paid $300K in severance and stock compensation

Memphis, Tenn.

— A Tennessee-based psychologist who worked for the Tennessee Titans said Thursday that she was paid $400,000 severance for 2016 and 2017, plus stock options and a $2 million cash bonus, as she worked on the team’s medical staff.

Dr. Robert F. Jones, director of the Memphis-based Division of Child and Adolescent Psychology at the University of Memphis, was hired in January 2015.

She worked on medical teams for the Titans, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Jones, a psychiatrist, worked for three seasons in Memphis and then relocated to Tampa, Florida, in 2017.

The Tennessee Titans and Jones’ medical team were working in the area where the Titans practice.

Jones had previously said that she wanted to be a part of the NFL and was seeking a position in the league.

The Titans announced last month that Jones was fired in August, and she is not on their medical staffs anymore.

Tennessee Titans coach Mike Mularkey said Thursday afternoon that Jones had been paid her severance in 2017, and that she would continue to receive her salary.

Jones did not return a message left Thursday afternoon seeking comment.
